TTO Finishes Round-Robin With Draw On Ashton’s 50TH Cap

Trinidad and Tobago Senior Women’s Hockey team finish off the round-robin tournament of the 2021 Pan American Challenge in Peru with another draw, this time against Brazil.

The goal comes off a mishandled pass by a Brazilian defender, and #14 Zene Henry was just in the neighborhood to steal that ball away. She drives the ball further into the circle and gets the goalie off-balances and just manages to nudge the ball home into the goal for the equalizer! It’s her 2nd goal of the competition.

The draw comes on the day captain Avion Ashton played her 50th cap for Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Hockey as they celebrated post-game on the field:

One unfortunate piece of news to report is the apparent knock that Brittney Hingh picked up during the 2nd half. She was able to get up after the first incident where she attempted to dribble through a crowd but was brought down again and was unable to continue. Her availability for the semi-final is uncertain as of right now.

Trinidad and Tobago will the play in the semi-final round against Paraguay on October 1st for a place in the Pan Am Challenge Final. Both teams played in their 2nd fixture to a 2-2 draw this past Tuesday.

The finalists qualify for the 2022 Women’s Pan American Cup.
