T&T Win Close Affair With Last Minute Govia Goal

Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Hockey team got off to an exciting start as they won their first game of the 2021 Women’s Pan American Challenge held in a 1-0 affair against tournament hosts Peru that came down to the last few seconds.

With about 16 seconds to go in the 4th period, Teresa Lezama hits a long range shot from about 125 feet that deflects off the leg of the Peruvian goalkeeper, but she loses track of the ball which allows Brianna Govia to poach that goal for Trinidad and Tobago with 7 seconds to spare:

With the win, Trinidad and Tobago are currently sitting 2nd in the standings of a round-robin table of 4 teams. Their next opponent, Paraguay are on top of the table with a 2-1 over Brazil. Peru and Brazil will be looking for their first win of the tournament when they play each other next; both games will be played on Tuesday.
