Trinidad and Tobago winger Levi Garcia is set to leave Beitar Jerusalem FC in Israel and is on his way to Greece to play with one of the top clubs in the Greek Super League in AEK Athens on a 5 year deal on a transfer fee of 2.2 million euros.
Greek site SporTime leaked rumours about Olympiacos and AEK Athens both submitting proposals for the 22 year old Soca Warrior, with AEK Athens coming out on top. Beitar Jerusalem would make the news of them selling Garcia official on their team website. Levi himself would later break the news in an interview with TTFA Head of Media, Shaun Fuentes.

“IT’S BEEN SOMETHING THAT’S BEEN CIRCULATING FOR A WHILE AND I’VE BEEN WORKING REALLY HARD AND NOW THAT IT’S SO CLOSE, USUALLY I DON’T SPEAK BEFORE THE INK ACTUALLY HITS BEFORE THE PAPER, BUT HOPEFULLY IN THE NEXT 24 TO 48 HOURS TO SIGN THE CONTRACT. IT CAME ABOUT THAT THE GREEKS WERE LOOKING AT ME FOR A WHILE AND FINALLY THEY CAME WITH A DECENT OFFER AND MY CLUB ACCEPTED.”

AEK Athens, who have made appearances in UEFA Europa and Champions Leagues before, presents an opportunity for Garcia to play against some of Europe’s best clubs and to showcase his talents on a bigger stage. Sean Fuentes asked him about this and he replied:

“IT’S A GREAT FEELING BECAUSE, NOT EVERYONE KNOWS, BUT I MADE A DECISION TO COME DOWN TO ISRAEL AFTER LEAVING THE NETHERLANDS, BASED ON A BOUNCE BACK I WOULD CALL IT, AND SO FAR IT WORKED IN MY FAVOUR WHERE A GOOD TEAM CAME WITH A GOOD INTEREST AND ITS A REAL GOOD FEELING. HOPEFULLY I COULD STAY INJURY-FREE AND GO THERE AND SHOW THEM WHAT I CAN DO AND FOR TRINIDAD IT’S A GREAT PLEASURE TO ALWAYS CARRY THE FLAG EVERYWHERE.”
