Friday was a big day for the Rio Claro big man.
Darussafaka Center Johnny Hamilton put up 8 points and 11 rebounds in a 85-71 victory over Galatasaray on Friday and have punched their ticket to the Turkish Basketball Cup Finals in the Ankara Sports Arena today.

Hamilton is averaging 12 points and 9 rebounds so far in the midseason tournament in a nice run of form dating back to Darussafaka’s league win against Bursaspor. In four of his last 5 games he’s had at least 5 offensive rebounds, has shot at least 50% of his shots from the field and blocked at least one shot.
It was also announced on Friday that Hamilton has been selected as an MVP candidate for the 7Days EuroCup tournament.

Johnny Hamilton, in EuroCup, is having one of the best offensive rebounding seasons in the competition’s history and is the defensive anchor of one of EuroCup’s stingiest defenses, with Darussafaka only allowing 71.7 points per game.
His rebounding numbers have been stellar. His 56 offensive rebounds (4 ORBs per game) are the most by any player in a season with at least 10 appearances. His 8.3 rebounds overall per game rank 2nd in EuroCup this season. He ranks 3rd in EuroCup in blocks, averaging 1.4 per game.

He also leads his team in scoring with 11.4 points per game on 63% shooting from the floor and currently ranks seventh in the EuroCup in average performance index rating with 17.2.
Darussafaka hosts Segafredo Virtus Bologna in an integral must-win game in March in their final Top 16 game. A big performance by the Big Man from Trinidad would add more incentive to his MVP case.
