Hamilton, Darussafaka, Upset Anadolu Efes

Darussafaka Center Johnny Hamilton helped his team get off to a great start in the Turkish Basketball Cup with an upset victory over Anadolu Efes on Tuesday.

Hamilton put up 16 points, 7 rebounds, an assist and a block in an 81-71 win over the #1 seeded Anadolu Efes who are currently leading the Basketball Super League with the #1 record. Darussafaka at the time of draw for the Turkish Cup was the #8 seed. Darussafaka guard Gary Browne was the MVP of the game with 22 points 5 assists and 5 rebounds.

Over the weekend, the Rio Claro big man had 9 point, 9 rebound game with two blocks over weekend against Gaziantep. Darussafaka won 86-77.

Most of Hamilton’s shots came off of lobs from his teammates and from a couple offensive rebounds. He also attempted a couple midrange jumpers making 1 of 2 of them. He’s been experimenting with a jump-shot throughout his time in Europe but hasn’t used it in volume in games. 4 of his 6 points also came from the free throw line.

Darussafaka will head to the Semi-Finals of the Turkish Basketball Cup against #4 seed Galatasaray who defeated Tofaş 98-81. Darussafaka played them in an earlier game in the Basketball Super League in November of last year where they narrowly lost to Galatasaray 78-75. Hamilton had 7 points, 12 rebounds (8 offensive rebounds) and two blocks in that game.

Darussafaka’s next game is against Türk Telekom in the Basketball Super League on the 26th February.
